Skywatchers in Ras Al Khaimah have something spectacular to look forward to this month as the Perseid meteor shower returns, promising one of the best celestial displays of the year.
The annual meteor shower is expected to peak on the night of 12 August into the early hours of 13 August, with experts saying this year's viewing conditions will be exceptional thanks to a new moon, creating darker skies and making even faint meteors easier to spot. Under ideal conditions, viewers could see up to 100 meteors per hour.
For the best experience in Ras Al Khaimah, head to dark locations away from city lights, such as Jebel Jais or other remote desert and mountain areas. No telescope is needed, simply give your eyes around 20 to 30 minutes to adjust to the darkness and look up.
